| Here is some really good information for the do-it-yourself painters out there. If you read through the article it can shed some light on alot of misconceptions about paint and techniques. http://www.scottgrundfor.com/ideas/paint3.html | |

| So my paint came in today. I talked to a painter at work and he was impressed. They came in a normal size paint can. I thought i was gonna be smaller. Well we shall see... | |

| well yeah the paint matches. Ive been doing some research. After i paint it i would have to use some light rubbing compound to make it shiny. Its not too much the base coat its the clear thats gonna be interesting. | |

| So paint didnt act right the first time so we had to go down to the primer. I hit it up with a few coats then cleared it. Now im working on how to get it to shine. We shall see. | |

| Yeah no matter how much i polished it it would not shine. I went on the site where i got the paint and they said use rubbing compound (it was in bold). I did that. I got a little shinier, but didnt match up with everything else. SO its at work now and one of the paint homies at work is gonna take a crack at it. | |

| So my homie at work just fixed my side mirror. Took him like 5 minutes. Here is what he said....
The base coat is good but whats bad is the clear. It lays too thin. In order to avoid problems the clearcoat needs more pressure.

HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure)
or
[edit] LVLP (Low Volume Low Pressure) I know about those Ivan, that is the types of guns that you use. You can only buy HVLP guns now adays in Cali, due to EPA restrictions. And Chris if it was laying thin, you should have used more coats.

And Chris if it was laying thin, you should have used more coats. They have that in cans too...not just guns. Krylon actually sells lvlp cans on their thicker richer colors. a quick fix for the hvlp cans that dont have enough "pressure" is to just switch out the caps you use. for example, you can use the older style wd40 fat caps to layout a thicker mist persay ....distributing the paint evenly so that it doesnt look so orange peelish.
