| excuse me as i blow off all the dust from this dead section of the forum board but i was just wondering fellow tc owners where exactly your car idles at. mine idles right around 650-700rpm and just wanna know if thats normal because i get some crazy vibrations in my car sometimes especially when i turn on my AC, but then again i did get in a major accident last year where i rear ended someone but i was told that the engine and placement of it and all that wasnt affected by the collision.
so yeah is my car dying on me because ive ran into too many things? or is it normal haha

| turning on the AC will work the engine and cause a variation in idle and all 4 cylinders especially. Check to see if your spark plugs are gapped correctly and the car is tuned up. should be normal then. | |

| cant you tighten the throttle cable to make it idle higher. i know on the xb you can and it gives you an extra little something when accelerating. | |

| ^ this is correct I have the same system in the gen 2. How many miles are on this Tc? may want to do a full tune up and fuel system cleaner to make sure all is well. May want to run some 91 through it as well to ensure it is all in good order. Also could check plugs for fouling this can cause a low idle due to incomplete burn. | |

| aight well i changed my spark plugs a few months ago around 70K and i have a little over 80K right now. they were direct replacement of the stock denso iridium ones and my friend who got them for me said that they were gapped correctly already and i didnt need to check the gap anymore. ill try running some 91 through it the next time i fill up. i keep up with the maintenance but instead of having toyota or any other place actually clean out my fuel injectors, i just bought a bottle of techron and used it when i filled up my car with gas which was also chevron with more techron haha. i did that twice around 65K. as for engine mods i only have a short ram intake and i replaced the filter about a three months ago and ive cleaned it once since then but ive been having the idling problem since around 65K and thats why i did the techron thing and changed my spark plugs but i really didnt notice any difference in the idling since i did that.
im thinking i should just go to toyota and have them clean my fuel injectors and all that business
oh and yes i do have an automagic lol

| when you put the plugs in did you make sure to torq spec them so they sit right in the cylinders. Also make sure all the boots are clicked on firmly, other than you could check your timing to see how far off you are. When did these probs pop up? it is weird that all the sudden. Make sure you filter is clean and the MAF sensor is free of debris. You could also check you throttle body and make sure that is clean too. and listen to the engine running and look for a vacuum leak. Other than that you will have to meter out senors like the throttle body position, auto idle, MAP, and the speed/dist. It sounds if all the physical elements are good then you have an electrical issue like a senor failing. I think it should idle at 800 normally but should not be rough. Def check the throttle spray it out with the cleaner and see what happens. Best of luck to you! | |

my friend who's a mechanic put the plugs in. he's the same guy who got them for me. we also listened for vaccum leaks and didnt hear anything. but ill be checking into everything pretty soon

| ^ no worries good luck make sure you Don't spray the MAF sensor it is a lil wire like a filament and can easily be damaged and very expensive from toyota. Just check to make sure it is clear of debris. Hope you figure it out man, research your findings and hopefully you will get your answers. | |

| ^ it may be may be normal should be over 700 under 1000 i believe. Could be slight variation due to temp and alt. | |

| My car idles low when I turn on the AC too but its done that since I bought it. Try something for me at idle roll both you windows up then keep your fingers on the roll up position does your car start to vibe a little? This is normally when the vvt-i kicks in and corrects the low idle. It never affected anything just always thought it was weird. | |

| You can spray the maf...just buy the correct maf sensor cleaner for it (usually CRC) and you should be cool....just be very carefull. The maf can be damaged if you drop it or bump it into anything really hard. Everytime i did a oil/filter change on the tC, i would always spray the maf just to make sure it was clean and debris free. | |
